Spring Wellness Update...
/As many of you may be aware, recently flu/rhino outbreaks have been on the rise. While there is no certainty of completely eradicating this scenario even through the best biosecurity measures, it does appear that the hardest hit cases are those that have not been immunized. With spring looming just around the corner, show and clinic season is about to commence full steam ahead. We want to remind everyone of the Sport Horse immunization protocol:
AT A MININUM ALL HORSES WILL RECEIVE A FLU/RHINO VACCINE, ANNUAL STRANGLES VACCINE AND A FECAL WORM COUNT because these are all transmitted from horse to horse and are HIGHLY contagious. And while we realize worms are not contagious, they are passed between horses through sharing pastures . Strongly suggested but voluntary vaccines include: EEV, EHV, Tetanus, Potomac Horse Fever, West Nile, Rabies.
If you have any intentions of traveling to shows or clinics be aware that most venues now require not only a current negative coggins (check yours for expiration) but a minimum of flu/rhino vaccine proof. Plan accordingly to save yourself a special trip fee!
