Chiropractics to be continued...

Upon the unfortunate departure of Dr. Yates moving to Florida we have been scrambling to find an affordable replacement for equine chiropractics and upon her recommendation have found Dr. Jake Jensen with Janssen Vet Clinic in Sheridan Indiana. We are planning on having him continue the quarterly adjustments beginning in May, his charges for 3+ horses at the same barn will be $112 per horse and a shared farm call of $77. We plan on following up beginning of May to finalize plans. Happy adjusting y’all!

Spring 2021 Wellness Day...

In anticipation of the WEC show of April 7-11 and the news of the latest EHV-1 worldwide outbreak, McDavitt Equine is scheduled for spring vaccinations March 24th at 09:00.

ALL HORSES WILL RECEIVE A FLU/RHINO VACCINE, EEV, EHV, Tetanus, Potomac Horse Fever, West Nile, Rabies, ANNUAL STRANGLES VACCINE AND A FECAL WORM COUNT. And while we realize worms are not contagious, they are passed between horses through sharing pastures .

If you have any intentions of traveling to shows or clinics be aware that most venues now require not only a current negative coggins (check yours for expiration) but a minimum of flu/rhino vaccine proof.  Plan accordingly to save yourself a special trip fee!

Anyone wanting any additional services during this same visit please let me know by this Friday the 19th.  Be sure to update/set up your billing information with McDavitt Equine Clinic at 317-769-6094 ASAP!   Happy almost Spring everyone!

Another Urgent VET Update...

Due to her ever growing travel schedule, Dr. Angie Yates has decided to get back to her initial roots of equine sports medicine/alternative medicine structure beginning January 1, 2021. We are planning to continue to utilize Dr. Yates for all chiro/acupunture, lameness, shockwave and PPE exams. In preparing for the transition of emergency and all other routine care (vaccinations, worming, coggins/health papers, wellness exams) we will be utilizing Dr. Bruce McDavitt of Zionsville. Visit https://www.mcdavittveterinaryclinic.com for more information and here’s to this change sticking for a while :)

Urgent VET Update...

As many of you are probably already aware, Dr. Jason Herrmann has decided to cease his service for equines and other large animal effective August 1, 2020 to allow more time with his family and small animal clinic. We have been diligently “shopping” for his replacement and based on our research have decided to utilize Dr. Angie Yates.  Her focus on equine lameness and sports medicine encompasses a wide variety of services as outlined below. Please note her contact info, specifically her cell phone number 317-474-9912 to be utilized for emergencies. We look forward to her care and input in keeping our equines in tip top health!

Upcoming volunteers needed...

As many of you are aware, we’ve been trying to schedule some “days off” and it really hasn’t worked out much. Actually it hasn’t worked out at all. While we are appreciative of our hay lofts full of sweet smelling 1st and 2nd cutting hay, we haven’t been able to chill and refuel as planned. So… A motorhome trip has been reserved and we are looking for any boarder or lesson student (or both) to handle AM/PM feeding and turn out starting Monday, August 3rd through Friday, August 7th. Please contact us via email or text ASAP so that we can coordinate the care of our mighty steeds!

Thank you in advance and Happy Trails to all!

Upcoming Scheduling Changes...

Effective June 2, 2020 all Sport Horse boarders will no longer be required to schedule their ride times. All students who either lease or pay for hack rides are to continue to book their rides. Y’all have been very respectful and efficient during these strange times and we appreciate it! Fingers crossed we are “over the hump” so to say… Time will tell! In the meantime we’ll see y’all at the barn!

Scheduling Changes (to be continued)...

We were all hoping to be past the point of social distancing but it appears as if returning to some sense of “normal” is a bit pre-mature, at least in the near future. So for now we will continue to remain open under the current protocol of scheduling all barn visits. Based on the first come first service premise this system appears to be working well, the only complaint being “not optimal availability for all”. Our first and foremost objective during this time is keep cooties at bay, the idea of any caretakers of our horses being sick is not a good one. We hope to be able to give back to you, our boarders and lessees, the unlimited access you’ve enjoyed in the past soon! In the meantime we will limit all visits to four per week (inclusive of your scheduled lesson), allowing equal access for everyone to enjoy their time at the barn. Your continued support and patience is appreciated. Stay well and we’ll see you at the barn!

Upcoming Schedule Changes...

With all that is going on I wanted to remind everyone of the upcoming Spring Wellness Day next Tuesday, March 31st at 10am. If you haven’t done so already please contact Dr. Herrmann’s office ASAP, Herrmann Vet Clinic at 317.313.8760, to confirm your current billing information and services you’d like provided above the required minimums. The on-line schedule has been updated to reflect his visit and coupled with the predicted rainy forecast we are closing the barn on Tuesday completely. However Monday’s forecast looks promising so we are allowing barn visits from 10:00 through 20:00, please reserve your spot accordingly. Remember that the time blocks you reserve are for the entire duration of your visit, inclusive of tacking, riding, untacking, cleaning, bathing, etc. not just riding! We want to be able to continue to provide everyone with the opportunity to visit as long as it remains feasible. While we are making every effort to disinfect twice daily, everyone is strongly urged to bring their own sanitary wipes for door handles, etc. and PLEASE PRACTICE:

Spring Wellness Day...

With spring looming just around the corner, show and clinic season is about to commence full steam ahead. Yes, you heard that right… Spring is technically only “30ish” days away!!!! We want to remind everyone of the Sport Horse immunization protocol:

AT A MININUM ALL HORSES WILL RECEIVE A FLU/RHINO VACCINE,  ANNUAL STRANGLES VACCINE AND A FECAL WORM COUNT because these are all transmitted from horse to horse and are HIGHLY contagious. And while we realize worms are not contagious, they are passed between horses through sharing pastures . Strongly suggested but voluntary vaccines include:  EEV, EHV, Tetanus, Potomac Horse Fever, West Nile, Rabies.

If you have any intentions of traveling to shows or clinics be aware that most venues now require not only a current negative coggins (check yours for expiration) but a minimum of flu/rhino vaccine proof.  Plan accordingly to save yourself a special trip fee!

Dr. Herrmann is scheduled to administer all REQUIRED SERVICES as stated above, plus any additional services you should desire, on Tuesday March 31, 2019 at 10:30 am. We have enclosed a current “price list” provided by Herrmann Veterinary Clinic and any billing or rate questions should be addressed to Herrmann Veterinarian Clinic directly at 317-313-8760.  Please be sure to update or set up your billing information with Dr. Herrmann prior to his scheduled visit!   Happy almost Spring everyone!

Trailer Loading Session...

In preparation for our Tuesday morning departure to WEC we are planning a “load your horse session” in the indoor this coming Saturday the 18th, commencing at 14:00 through 15:30. Your presence is encouraged but not required. The new trailer will not only require walking up a steeper ramp but also back into their respective stalls as well, a definite new way of loading for all the horses! Hope to see y’all there :)

Tack room updates...

We wanted to remind everyone that the heat in the main barn tack room is set on auto and to please keep all doors including the isle way doors closed at all times. Upon arrival for morning feeding today we found the outside tack room door propped open with the corner planter and the heater happily humming inside… Ugh!

And speaking of today… We set up this de-humidifier right inside the front door! Please assist with dumping the water reservoir daily to keep it running optimally and keep our tack mold free!!!

Schedule Updates and more...

The holidays are literally just around the corner, how did they sneak up on us so quickly???? It seems like just yesterday that we prepared the indoor for in-climate weather and dug out rain sheets?! Now the hum of body clippers and the ever changing of blanket weights is the daily barn conundrum. It was difficult to get January show plans on the way when we’re not even to Thanksgiving and we managed to miss the boat as they say to the January 15-19 show, stalls were already sold out. But, we’ve regrouped and we’re a go for the January 22-26 week!

The last calendar sent out has the SHi Holiday Party scheduled for the 14th of December, a date that appeared to clash with the December performance of the 13th Floor Rock Group, led by our one and only, Billy Bob. In an effort to not stifle their following we respectfully rescheduled our Holiday Party to Friday the 13th of December at 18:00. Bring yourself, a dish and your drink of choice. And just to keep the superstitions at bay, Billy Bob has ensured us he will come dressed for the occasion! Details not be disclosed, you’ll just have to attend to find out!

Instead of a gift exchange we are asking everyone to sponsor a LED bulb for the Indoor Arena, we have 27 to replace at approximately $90 a piece! Nessa has offered to head this effort and we will be sending out an additional notice in the next week with more details. Unfortunately we’ve been unable to verify exactly which bulbs are the correct ones without our tractor front loader/forks. We are anticipating the return of the tractor with a brand new engine early this week and the timing couldn’t be better. After missing the very short window of frigid temps we needed to get the semi through the front field with sawdust we have finally been able to secure another supplier but they anticipate not being to dump their load inside. Not to mention the indoor needs dragged. C’mon Bid Red!!!!

Here’s to good equipment, good timing and good company :) Happy Thanksgiving ya’ll! Be safe, eat lots and we’ll see you at the barn!
